Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona and has been described as an "atypical pop star" because of her diverse musical styles. [9] She was captivated by Spanish folk music when she was 13 years old. She was a musicologist at Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. Blending flamenco and hip hop and pop music the album produced "Malamente" (single) and "Pienso in tu Mira (single). Both songs sold out and garnered a lot of critical praise. 11) Winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and listed in the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the world music scene. With her third studio album Motomami (2022) she gave reggaeton a fresh new twist, moving away from the original flamenco vibe. The album gained the attention of the world with its two singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and became the most reviewed album this year by Metacritic. In her entire career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top-ten singles in her home country, the most for an artist from the country. Rosalia has been awarded 11 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards 4 MTV Europe Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing today's mainstream music sound through her flamenco-influenced pop"[1818. She was also the first Spanish-singing artist to be nominated at the Grammys for Best New Artist. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She is the eldest of four children born to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who owns a small metalworking business. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They split in 2019. (23). She has an older sister, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) who collaborates with Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts as a child, particularly after she discovered the discography by Camaron de La Isla. At the Taller de Musics, she began her music education. She took a six-year course in the academy. She began in the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Additionally, she performed in a private capacity as a performer at weddings, music bars, and other occasions. She was paid "a just over 80 euros or in exchange for a meal". In that period, Rosalia met many underground Spanish artists that later would be successful, including La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
